Timor-Leste and Australia: The Boundaries of Friendship

This permanent exhibition tells the little known story of Timor in World War II. It explores the bonds of friendship and camaraderie forged between Australian soldiers and the people of Timor-Leste and the “debt of honour” left to pay to the Timorese after the war. It also exposes how oil and gas reserves in the Timor Sea have shaped Australian foreign policy in relation to Timor-Leste and tells the story of the brave and determined struggle of the East Timorese for full sovereignty over their land and sea.
